SI.com's Chris Burke believes the Redskins will add to their offensive strengths in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, as he has TCU wide receiver Josh Doctson linked with the team in his latest mock draft.
"Washington can take its pick between Doctson and Ohio State's Michael Thomas for the 'big' receiver it needs—Doctson stands 6-3, 195," Burke writes. "His height, hands, leaping ability and body control combine in a highlight-reel package. While the nuances of playing receiver at the NFL position will take time, the Redskins' stable of reliable pass-catchers could leave Doctson to do his thing."
Indeed, the Redskins, despite having a strong receiving corps, do not have a wide receiver taller than six feet that appeared in regular season action.
Rob Kelley, Ryan Grant and Colt McCoy are all listed at six feet tall, while LaRon Byrd, who signed a reserve/futures contract on Monday, is 6-foot-4.
During his senior season in 2015, Doctson set career highs across the board in receiving, as he hauled in 79 passes for 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns.
His 14 touchdowns receptions were tied for the fifth most at the Football Bowl Series (FBS) level.
Doctson had a career day on Sept. 26 against Texas Tech, as he caught 18 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns.
During a six-game streak from Sept. 19 against SMU until Oct. 29 against West Virginia, Doctson got on one of the most impressive rolls in recent memory for a college wide receiver, as he recorded 60 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Docston suffered a season-ending broken arm on Nov. 7 against Oklahoma State.
Despite being limited in his final two appearances and missing TCU's final two regular season games and their Alamo Bowl victory over Oregon, Docston was an Associated Press first-team All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist.
In 2014 during a breakout campaign, the Mansfield, Texas, native caught 65 passes for 1,018 yards and 11 touchdowns.
For his college career, Doctson – who was with Wyoming as a freshman in 2011 -- accumulated 214 receptions for 3,177 yards and 34 touchdowns.
He is one of 10 wide receivers that has accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl, which will take place later this month in Mobile, Ala.
