In his first mock draft of the year, NFL.com's Bucky Brooks has the Redskins going with a signal caller in the first round in the form of Wyoming's Josh Allen.
If the Washington Redskins ultimately don't bring back Trent Williams on a long-term deal or believe that they want a younger quarterback under center, could the team look to draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft?
NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks believes it could happen, as he has the Redskins taking Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen with the No. 13-overall pick in his first mock draft of the year.
"Colt McCoy serves as the team's bridge quarterback until the young gunslinger is ready to assume the QB1 role," Brooks writes.
In three seasons at Wyoming, Allen appeared in 27 games and passed for 5,066 yards with 44 touchdowns to 21 interceptions. He also ran for nearly 800 yards with 12 rushing scores.
During the 2017 season, Allen appeared in 11 games and threw for 1,812 yards along with a combined 21 touchdowns. The 6-foot-5, 240 pounder capped off his college career by completing 11-of-19 passes for 154 yards with three touchdowns to no interceptions in Wyoming's 37-14 victory over Central Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
While Allen's numbers dipped during his final season with the Cowboys, he entered the national spotlight in 2016. Starting all 14 of Wyoming's games, Allen threw for 3,203 yards with 28 touchdowns to 15 interceptions while also rushing for 523 yards and seven additional scores.
The Firebaugh, Calif., native began the season by leading Wyoming to a triple overtime victory over Northern Illinois, as he passed for 245 yards and two touchdowns to no interceptions. While Allen struggled the next week in a loss to Nebraska in which he threw five interceptions, he rebounded over the next five games. During that span, Allen threw seven touchdowns to just one pick.

Allen appeared in just two games during his freshman season before suffering a season-ending injury.
Prior to his time at Wyoming, Allen attended Reedley Community College where he led an offense that averaged more than 450 yards per contest.
According to his NFL.com draft profile, Allen has the "prototype frame for a pocket passer."
"Sturdy base allows him to shake off sacks and extend plays. Rare arm strength and overall arm talent. Has variety of release points if needed. Can uncork suddenly when it breaks open. Able to thread the needle with a rocket launcher. Makes throws that no other quarterback in college can make. Excellent thrower of deep outs. Able to outpace safeties to deep sideline throws. Aggressive pump-fakes open double moves. Turns into competent traffic director when scrambling. Can roll right and fling it down the field with impressive velocity and placement. Asked to read the entire field. No throw is too challenging. Has arm strength and mobility to create explosive plays when play goes off-schedule. Ability to challenge safeties over the top could help running games. Attacks intermediate windows with pretty good precision when allowed to sit down in the pocket. Has experience under center and operating in play-action passing attack. Willing to pull it and move the chains with his legs. Has experience in poor weather," his profile writes.
