Due to the big question marks at the quarterback position, CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso has the Redskins taking Heisman-winning quarterback Kyler Murray in this year's NFL Draft. Trapasso doesn't see Murray falling to the Redskins pick at 15th overall, however, as he has the Redskins trading up with the Bills and getting the ninth-overall pick.
Trapasso says: "With Lock and Haskins gone, the Redskins get antsy and move into the Top 10, ahead of the Broncos, Bengals, and Dolphins, and swing for the fences with Murray."
Picking Murray would be big 'swing for the fence', as he could turn into a franchise quarterback, or he could opt to play baseball and never take a snap in the NFL.
This past season, Kyler Murray set the college football world alight as he won the Heisman Memorial Trophy and led the Oklahoma Sooners to the College Football Playoff. Murray played in all 14 of Oklahoma's games this year, passing for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns while completing 69 percent of his passes. Murray also showcased his speed as he ran the ball 140 times for 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Murray only had three games where he was held under 300 total yards of offense this year, and his most productive game was against West Virginia on November 23rd. Against the Mountaineers, Murray went 20/27 in the air for 364 yards and three touchdowns, while also having nine carries for 114 yards and a touchdown.
Along with winning the Heisman Trophy, given to the best college football player in the country, Murray was named the AP Player of the Year, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, and he also won the Davey O'Brien award, given to college football's best quarterback. Statistically, Murray led the country in total yards, total yards per play, total touchdowns, and passing yards per attempt. Murray was also in the top five for passing yards, pass completions, passing touchdowns, and passing efficiency.
Murray entered college as the highest-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 class, but he would never shine until his redshirt junior season at the University of Oklahoma. In his freshman season at Texas A&M, Murray only played in eight games and starting three. After his freshman season, Murray announced that he would be transferring to Oklahoma. In Murray's redshirt sophomore season he would not see the field too often, as he was the backup to Heisman winner and future No. 1-overall pick Baker Mayfield.
According to his Draft Network profile, Murray "has speed, escapability, a powerful throwing arm and enough general accuracy to allow gifted catch point receivers to adjust and ensure the catch. Murray is not a one size fits all prospect but in an offensive utilizing RPO/spread concepts, he can be an explosive weapon and effective starting QB."
