Beyond cheering for the best fans in the NFL, being a First Lady of Football has given me so many great opportunities to participate in events around the DC metro area and give back to the community. On October 8th, I was fortunate to join several of my teammates in "A Night of Pink Hope," presented by the We Believe Foundation and our very own sponsor, Robert Andrew Salon and Spa. All proceeds from the event were donated to the We Believe Foundation's Pink Hearts of Hope Fund, whose mission is to raise awareness of the social, emotional and fertility issues for young women diagnosed with breast cancer, while providing them with financial assistance.
The black-tie (and pink!) event was held at the Annapolis Sheraton, and I had the opportunity to greet guests as they arrived and posed for photos on the "pink carpet." The evening was full of activities, which included a silent auction (featuring four Redskins club seats, which sold for $750!), hors d'oeuvres and pink cocktails, and a runway show that highlighted a couple of our own (Toccara and Ashley W.), as well as several brave women who are conquering the disease. The event concluded with a dance performance on the runway, where we were joined by the Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders.Together, we helped energize the crowd and unite some rival Redskins and Ravens fans around the fantastic cause.
It was a heartfelt evening, but an empowering one as well. This is the 27th year of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and you may have noticed us sporting our pink jerseys, ribbons, and poms at the game against the Eagles this past weekend. Many women on the team, including myself, have been touched by this disease, so we're very thankful to have so many opportunities to share our support. Over the past month, we've participated in events like "Wrinkle Erase for the Cure," sponsored by Dr. Ruff, and a "Pink Party" at the Trump National Golf Club, with a few more to come. We look forward to continuing to raise awareness and joining you in the fight against breast cancer.
