For the second year in a row, the Redskins are expected to complete a blockbuster NFL trade, this time acquiring wide receiver Santana Moss from the New York Jets for wide receiver Laveranues Coles.

The Redskins and Jets have reached an agreement on the trade, expected to be officially announced early this week. The deal is contingent on Moss and Coles passing physicals.

Moss is a five-year NFL veteran who has caught 151 passes for 2,416 yards and 19 touchdowns in his career. He is regarded as a deep threat with blazing speed, as evidenced by his 16.0 yards-per-catch career average.

Last season, Moss caught 45 passes for 838 yards and five touchdowns while struggling through a hamstring injury. He had a breakout season in 2003, hauling in 74 catches for 1,105 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The pending departure of Coles is a surprising development for the Redskins. Since coming to Washington prior to the 2003 season--as a restricted free agent previously with the Jets--Coles has been one of the more productive offensive weapons for the Redskins.

Head coach Joe Gibbs said that he and Coles have had multiple discussions this offseason, although Gibbs has preferred to keep their conversations private. During the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in mid-February, Gibbs told reporters that Coles could be on the trading block this offseason.

Coles caught 90 passes for 950 yards and one touchdown last season. The receptions total was the third-most ever in Redskins history; only Redskins great Art Monk has caught more passes in a single season.

In 2003, his first season in Washington, Coles caught 82 passes for 1,204 yards and six touchdowns.
