Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks may have been just the game that wide receiver Anthony Armstrong needed to jumpstart his season.
While Armstrong only had one catch, it was a 50-yard touchdown grab that was part of a Redskins' 10-point comeback. His touchdown came with just under six-and-a-half minutes left in the game and gave the Redskins a 20-17 lead.
It was the type of big play that Armstrong had been looking to make all season. It was a boost to his confidence.
"It reaffirmed everything but it felt like kind of a load taken off my shoulders type thing," Armstrong said. "But it just means you have to keep doing it."
Last year was Armstrong's first full season in the NFL and he exploded onto the scene, grabbing 44 catches for 871 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged nearly 20 yards a catch last season, and seemed to always be making big plays.
This season Armstrong has battled injuries, but in the nine games he has played, he has caught just six passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns.
His big catch on Sunday was something he hopes will allow him more opportunities for the rest of the season.
"It's just kind of one of those wait and see type things," Armstrong said. "You always hope so, you will be ready if they do but, if not then so be it and I will just try to make an impact in other places."
"If so I will try to be efficient and take advantage of the opportunities," Armstrong added.
The Redskins may have earned a much-needed victory on Sunday, but Armstrong says his teammates are staying humble.
"We still want to win. We still have seven losses so we are trying to get the next winm that's all," Armstrong said.
Getting that next win will be no easy task going up against the talented New York Jets defense, and Armstrong is well aware of the challenge at hand.
The Jets boast one of the NFL's best cornerback tandems in Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie.
"Something we need to be aware of is the talent that they have at cornerback," Armstrong said. "You have to be sound in your routes and execution and can't turn the ball over."
