Free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe was ruled out of Sunday's game vs. Carolina due to a knee injury.
Atogwe sat out practice last week and was listed as questionable heading into the game. He suffered the injury in last Sunday's game vs. Philadelphia.
With Atogwe sidelined, Reed Doughty drew the start in his place.
It was Doughty's third start this season. He started at strong safety the first two weeks in place of LaRon Landry.
The Redskins' secondary was also without reserve cornerback Byron Westbrook, sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
Veteran cornerback Phillip Buchanon was available to play for the first time this season, though. Buchanon missed the first four games due to an NFL suspension and sat out last week's contest vs. Philadelphia with a neck injury.
The Redskins' complete list of inactives was as follows: wide receiver Donte Stallworth, Atogwe, Westbrook, tight end Chris Cooley, linebacker Markus White, offensive tackle Trent Williams and defensive lineman Darrion Scott.
Sean Locklear, a Lumberton, N.C., native, started at left tackle in place of Williams and Fred Davis started at tight end.
