LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The National Football League announced today that Washington Commanders kicker Austin Seibert has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 2.
Seibert went 7-for-7 on fields goals and recorded all 21 of Washington's points in their 21-18 win over the New York Giants. Seibert set a new franchise record for most field goals made in a single game. He is also tied for second in NFL history for most made field goals in a single game, trailing only Rob Bironas (8 made field goals in 2007).
Seibert becomes the seventh kicker in franchise history to secure the honor, joining Chip Lohmiller, Shaun Suisham, Graham Gano, Kai Forbath, Dustin Hopkins and Joey Slye.
This marks the first time in Seibert's career that he has secured a Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
Seibert recorded 21 total points for Washington, which was the most in a single game since 1973. Seibert now ranks third in franchise history in total points scored in a single game, trailing Larry Brown (24 on Dec. 16, 1973) and Dick James (24 on Dec. 17, 1961).
Seibert leads all NFL kickers in single game totals of made field goals and points through two weeks. He is also the first kicker to make seven field goals in a single game since 2019.
Seibert is one-of-three kickers this season who has not missed a field goal (minimum 6 attempts). San Francisco K Jake Moody (6-for-6) and Pittsburgh Steelers K Chris Boswell (6-for-6) are the other two kickers to have accomplished the feat through two weeks.
Seibert is the first Washington Commander to win the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors since P Tress Way (Week 9 of the 2023 season). He is the first Commanders kicker to receive the honor since K Joey Slye (Week 10 of the 2022 season).
This marks the 27th time in NFL history that a Washington player has received an NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
