Every week, Redskins.com chats with a Redskins coach about a hot topic. This week: assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams discusses forcing turnovers:

"We have to do a better job on capitalizing on the turnover opportunities that we have. Last year, we weren't getting a lot of turnovers early in the season either, and then they came at the end of the season in kind of an avalanche.

"We were close to the top of the league in causing fumbles last year. For the longest time, we couldn't recover them. The ball would bounce back the other way. It's been like that this year. Sean Taylor came in and forced a fumble on Tiki Barber in the Giants game, but we couldn't recover it. Marcus Washington had an interception bounce off his hands.

"Late in the Giants ballgame, the television cameras probably had a nice shot of me on the sidelines throwing all my stuff down, my headset down, when the ball bounced about 30 feet in the air and we still couldn't find it and catch it.

"Those are the kind of turnovers that are changing plays in a game. And our offense needs that. It's not just the offense's responsibility in those tight games. When the defense can be a catalyst and give a short field to the offense on an opportunity that you've worked for and you've created like that, it gives you a lot of momentum in a game.

"That's the human part of the game and momentum is part of that. Those types of turnovers that you create and come up with are big lifts for your football team. You find some extra energy with that.

"Turnovers are critical when you are getting ready to play a Colts team with Peyton Manning. You have to take away some opportunities from them taking shots at your end zone. That is a great way to end a series of plays, with a takeaway.

"We brought in Troy Vincent this weekto help--he has 47 career interceptions. I have been impressed with his leadership in the short amount of time he has been here. I am impressed with his ability to fit in and adapt to our terminology. His intelligence will help."
