Players re-signing with Washington

TE Zach Ertz

Ertz proved that he can still be an important offensive weapon, and the Commanders rewarded him by reportedly keeping him in the DMV for another year with quarterback Jayden Daniels, **according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.**

Ertz was one of Daniels' most reliable targets in 2024, as he ranked second on the team in receptions, yards and receiving touchdowns. Ertz said he was the healthiest he had been in years, and he proved that by having his most productive season since 2021.

LB Bobby Wagner

Another one of Washington's leaders, both on and off the field, is choosing to remain with the Burgundy & Gold, as he agreed to and signed a one-year deal last week.

Wagner (6-0, 261) is a 14-year NFL veteran who entered the league with the Seattle Seahawks as a second-round pick (47th overall) in 2012. In his career, Wagner has appeared in 202 games with 201 starts and recorded 1,836 total tackles, 35.0 sacks, 99 tackles for loss, 13 interceptions, seven forced fumbles and 12 fumble recoveries. Wagner is a Super Bowl Champion (XLVIII), was an 11-time AP All-Pro (six-time first-team) and has been selected to ten Pro Bowls.

Last season, Wagner started in 17 regular season games and totaled a team-leading 132 tackles with 2.0 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, four passes defensed and two fumble recoveries. With his 132 tackles, he recorded his 13th straight season with at least 100 tackles, joining LB London Fletcher as the only other player to record 100-plus tackles in at least 13-straight seasons in NFL history.

TE John Bates

Bates has reportedly agreed to remain with the Commanders, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2021 draft, on a multi-year deal, **according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.** Bates is regarded as one of the best blocking tight ends in the league and helped clear paths for running back Brian Robinson as well as protect Daniels. Bates also has 61 catches on 88 receptions for 592 yards and two touchdowns in his career.

K Zane Gonzalez

The kicker that doinked the Commanders into their first playoff win in decades is staying with the team.

Gonzalez stepped in for an injured Austin Seibert in the second half of the 2024 season and hit five of his seven field goal attempts in the regular season and all 19 of his extra points. He was 7-of-8 in the postseason, including the 37-yard game-winner against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

P Tress Way

The Commanders' longest-tenured player is sticking with the team for at least another season, as the two sides have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal, **per NBC Washington's JP Finlay.**

Way, who was signed by the team in 2014, is the most successful punter in franchise history, as he ranks first in five major categories. Although he only punted 50 times -- the second-lowest single-season number of his career -- he surpasses Mike Bragg for the most total punt yardage in franchise history.

RB Chris Rodriguez Jr.

The Commanders have tendered exclusive rights free agent Chris Rodriguez Jr.

Rodriguez, a sixth-round pick from 2023, played in nine games and had 173 yards on 35 carries. Most of that came during the team's 42-19 win over the Tennessee Titans, when he rushed for 94 yards and scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

RB Jeremy McNichols

The Commanders have reportedly agreed to terms with running back Jeremy McNichols to keep him in the DMV, **per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.**

McNichols had the best season of his career in Washington, putting up 261 rushing yards and touchdowns on 55 carries. He proved to be a solid replacement for both Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler, as he was able to replicate Robinson's power and Ekeler's versatility.

McNichols' best game came in Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals, when he had to replace Ekeler while he was in the concussion protocol. He carried the ball eight times for 68 yards and scored two touchdowns in the 42-14 win.

QB Marcus Mariota

The Commanders are reportedly bringing back quarterback Marcus Mariota on a one-year deal, **per ESPN's Adam Schefter.**

Mariota was considered an asset in the Commanders' quarterback room because of his experience and source of guidance for Daniels throughout his rookie season. He also stepped in for Daniels against the Carolina Panthers when the rookie went down with a rib injury and in the regular season finale against the Dallas Cowboys.

Mariota completed 34 of his 44 passes this season with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also carried the ball five times for 56 yards and a score.

C Michael Deiter

The Washington Commanders announced today that they have re-signed Michael Deiter. Full terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Deiter (6-6, 315) is a six-year NFL veteran who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the third round (78th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has played in 90 career games, making 35 starts at both left guard and center.

In 2024, Deiter played in all 17 games and made two starts at center in Weeks 15 and 18. He appeared in all three playoff games in a special teams role.

Commanders' trade moves

WR Deebo Samuel

The Commanders have reportedly added wide receiver and offensive weapon Deebo Samuel, one of the league's most dynamic players of the last four years, to their roster via a trade with the San Francisco 49ers, **according to ESPN's John Keim and Nick Wagoner.** Although details of the trade have not been officially released by the team, the terms include the Commanders sending their 2025 fifth-round pick to the 49ers.

Samuel, a second-round pick by the 49ers in 2019, has 5,935 total yards and 42 touchdowns on 536 touches. Although his best season came in 2021, when he earned a Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro selection for amassing 1,770 yards and 14 touchdowns, he has recorded at least 800 scrimmage yards in five of his six NFL seasons.

LT Laremy Tunsil

The Commanders wanted to address the offensive line to protect Daniels this offseason, and they have reportedly done so by acquiring one of the best left tackles in football. **ESPN's Schefter** reported that the Texans are trading Laremy Tunsil to the Commanders for draft compensation.

Tunsil, a first-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2016, is a five-time Pro Bowler, all of which have come since 2019, with 125 starts in as many games. Few players have performed as well as Tunsil when it comes to protecting quarterbacks, as he received a pass-blocking grade of at least 84 from Pro Football Focus in five of the last six seasons. He allowed zero pressures in seven games last season -- second only to Lane Johnson among offensive tackles.

Players joining Washington

DT Javon Kinlaw

The Commanders have added to their defensive line by reportedly agreeing to terms with former Jets defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, **per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.**

Kinlaw, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers before signing with the Jets on a one-year deal, has played in 58 games with 45 starts and recorded 110 tackles in his career. The Jets made Kinlaw a full-time starter in 2024, and the former first-round pick put together a career campaign with 40 tackles and 4.5 sacks, both of which were career highs.

S Will Harris

The Commanders have reportedly agreed to terms with veteran safety Will Harris, who spent last season with the New Orleans Saints, **per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.**

Harris, a third-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2019, has played in 94 career games with 53 starts. A versatile player with experience at strong and free safety, Harris has recorded 320 tackles in his career to go with three interceptions, 19 pass breakups and two fumble recoveries.

Harris is coming off a solid season with the Saints after playing five seasons with the Lions. He recorded 74 tackles -- the second-best total of his career and his most since 2021, as the Saints' starting strong safety. He also broke up a career-high five passes and intercepted one.

DT Eddie Goldman

The Commanders have added depth to their defensive line by reportedly agreeing to terms with Eddie Goldman, **per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.**

Goldman, a second-round pick by the Chicago Bears in 2015, has played in 98 games with 83 starts. He's recorded 191 tackles with 14 sacks and 24 quarterback hits. Goldman retired after the 2021 season but returned in 2024 and started 10 games for the Atlanta Falcons.

CB Jonathan Jones

The Commanders have reportedly agreed to terms with veteran cornerback Jonathan Jones, **per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.**

Jones, a 2016 undrafted free agent out of Auburn, has spent his entire career with the New England Patriots with 71 starts in 132 games. He's recorded 436 tackles in nine seasons with 57 pass breakups and 11 interceptions, four of which came during 2022 season.

Jones has started at least 14 games over the last two seasons and has experience playing on the outside and in the slot.

DT Deatrich Wise

The Commanders reportedly agree to terms with former Patriots defensive lineman Deatrich Wise, supplying them with more depth up front, **per ESPN's John Keim.**

Wise, who was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, appeared in 126 games with 61 starts. He has recorded 314 tackles in his career with 34 tackles for loss. Wise (6-foot-5, 280 pounds) is more of a run-stopper but does provide some assistance in the pass rush, as he has 34 sacks in his career.

WR KJ Osborn

The Commanders have reportedly added depth to their wide receiver room by agreeing to bring back KJ Osborn, **per ESPN's Adam Schefter.**

Osborn was claimed off waivers by the Commanders during the 2024 season after being released by the New England Patriots. Originally signed by the Patriots, last March, Osborn had seven catches for 57 yards and a touchdowns in New England.
