Commanders sign CB Jonathan Jones

The Washington Commanders announced today that they have signed cornerback Jonathan Jones. Full terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jones (5-9, 185) is a nine-year NFL veteran who went undrafted and signed with the New England Patriots in 2016. All nine of his seasons were spent in New England prior to signing with Washington this off-season. He's played 132 career games with 71 starts and recorded 322 tackles, 11 interceptions and 57 passes defended.

In 2024, Jones appeared in 17 games for New England and tallied 58 tackles, six passes defended and two forced fumbles. He started at least 14 games for the third consecutive season.

Jones started a career-high 16 games in 2022 and posted career-highs in tackles (68), interceptions (4) and passes defended (11).

In his first three seasons (2016-18), Jones appeared in all 48 games and totaled four interceptions, and 16 passes defended. He saw action in seven playoff games, including a start in Super Bowl LIII when he made eight tackles and 1.0 sack.

A native of Carrollton, Georgia, Jones attended Carrollton High School and played four seasons at Auburn (2013-16). Jones played in 45 games and had 129 tackles, seven interceptions and 26 passes defended.
