Commanders sign DE Jacob Martin, T Foster Sarell, DE Deatrich Wise Jr.

The Washington Commanders announced today that they have signed defensive end Jacob Martin, tackle Foster Sarell and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. Full terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Martin (6-2, 242) is a seven-year veteran who was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has played in 102 career games and totaled 95 tackles, 21.0 sacks and seven forced fumbles.

Last season, Martin appeared in 11 games for the Chicago Bears and recorded 3.0 sacks and six quarterback hits. Martin spent three seasons (2019-21) with the Houston Texans and had career-highs in sacks (4.0), total tackles (23) and forced fumbles (2) in 2021.

Martin played four seasons (2014-17) at Temple University and played in 50 games with 11.5 career sacks. A native of Aurora, Colorado, Martin attended Cherokee Trail High School.

Sarell (6-6, 322) is a four-year veteran who went undrafted and signed with the Baltimore Ravens following the 2021 draft. He has played in 35 career games with three starts and only accounted for one penalty.

A native of Tacoma, Washington, Sarell played four seasons at Stanford University (2017-20) and earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention in 2019.

Wise (6-5, 280) is an eight-year NFL veteran who was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (131st overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has played in 126 career games with 61 starts and totaled 314 tackles, 34.0 sacks, 90 quarterback hits, 33 tackles for loss, 12 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Wise has spent his entire career in New England and was name as the team's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award Nominee in 2024. He has also been named team captain for each of the last three seasons (2022-24).

Last season, Wise appeared in 15 games, making five starts and had 29 total tackles, 5.0 sacks and eight quarterback hits. In Week 10 against the Chicago Bears, he registered his second career game with two or more sacks.

In 2022, Wise registered career-highs in games started (16), sacks (7.5), total tackles (59) and tackles for loss (seven). In Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, he recorded his first career 3.0 sack game. All three sacks were in the first half making him the fifth player in Patriots history to accomplish that feat.

Wise played collegiately at the University of Arkansas for four seasons (2012-16). He played in 50 games with 10 starts and tallied 112 total tackles including 23 tackles for loss, 17 quarterback hurries, six passes defensed and four forced fumbles. At the time of his graduation, he finished 10th in Arkansas history with 16.5 sacks.

A native of Carrollton, TX, Wise attended Hebron High School. He is married to his wife, Channell, and the two welcomed their son, Amir, in 2023.
