The Washington Commanders announced today that they have signed safety Will Harris. Full terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Harris (6-1, 206) is a six-year NFL veteran who was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the third round (81st overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has played in 92 career games with 53 starts and totaled 218 tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumbles.
In 2024, Harris started 13 games for New Orleans and recorded 54 tackles and one interception. He matched a career-high in Week 15 against Washington with nine tackles and ended the season with four straight games of at least eight tackles.
Harris played five seasons in Detroit (2019-23), primarily as a cornerback, and missed a total of two games during that span. He appeared in all three playoff games for the Lions in 2023.
In 15 games with 10 starts in 2022, Harris tallied 40 tackles and his first career interception in Week 2 against Washington. In 2021, he had a career-high 62 tackles with four passes defended and one forced fumble.
Harris played four seasons at Boston College (2015-2018) and earned All-ACC Third Team honors his senior year. He posted 139 tackles, five interceptions and 12 passes defended over the course of his collegiate career.
A native of Suwanee, Georgia, Harris attended Choate Rosemary Hall. He is the son of Will Harris Sr., the former Mississippi State and NFL wide receiver.
