Daniels Expects to Play With Torn Biceps

Phillip Daniels has a torn biceps, but he wants to play through the injury the rest of the season.

Daniels suffered the injury in the second half of Sunday's game at Carolina. He underwent an MRI on Monday morning.

"It's not going to get any worse, so I can play with it," Daniels said. I could have surgery right now and make it a lot easier on me. But I talked with my family and I'm going to go ahead and play.

"It's not like a triceps injury, that's the biggest muscle [in the forearm]. That's what Randy Thomas had and he's out for the year. I can play with this, so I'm going to try to play with it."

If Daniels has the surgery, then it would likely be a 5-6 month recovery time. He would have to be placed on injured reserve.

"I don't have 5-6 months," he said. "I can help this team now. I just want to continue to play."

He expects to have the surgery once the Redskins' season is over.

Daniels said he hoped to be available to play in this Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but his status remains uncertain.

"He'll lose maybe a little bit of strength or rotation in his arm as far as his strength goes," Jim Zorn said.

Daniels, 36, is in his 14th NFL season.

Returning from a torn ACL last year, he has started all five of the Redskins' games this year at defensive end and recorded 18 tackles and three QB hurries.

He has hinted at retirement in the past, but he thinks he could play 3-4 more years.

"I have a lot of games left," Daniels said. "I'm not going to say this is my last year. You're not going to get me to say I'm going to retire. I'm playing too well for that.

"I'm going to take it one day at a time, continue this season and go from there."
