There's a lot that comes with being named a starting quarterback in the NFL, particularly if the signal-caller is a rookie. Among the slew of "firsts" Jayden Daniels will experience this season is his inclusion in a philanthropic effort created to benefit countless children.

In being named Washington's starting quarterback, Daniels' helmet is being auctioned off as part of Helmets for Heroes, an initiative that's part of the Starr Children's Fund.

Started by the Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr and his wife Cherry in 2017, the Starr Children's Fund raises funds to support childhood cancer research, treatment and caregiver support. One key way the Fund has done this in recent years is through Helmets for Heroes.

This initiative was inspired by a gesture Bart Starr began following his retirement from the sport. At start of each season, the legendary Packer would write "kick off notes" to all starting quarterbacks. After Bart died in 2019, his wife Cherry took up the mantle to honor his legacy.

Following Cherry's passing this year, their son and granddaughter are continuing the letter-writing tradition. These notes request each quarterback to sign a team helmet for the Helmets for Heroes auction, held during one week of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month each September.

The Commanders are honored to support this exciting initiative for the sixth straight season. From Sept. 5-15, you can bid to win a signed Daniels helmet!
