The Redskins approached the NFL Draft with an eye toward acquiring the best athletes available at positions of need. That strategy led to the Redskins drafting five players on defense and one offensive lineman.

This coming weekend, the Redskins' six draftees will participate in the team's three-day Rookie Camp. It will be the first time that Redskins coaches will get a look at their 2006 rookie crop.

Here's a player-by-player look at each of the Redskins' draft picks and how they will fit in on the roster next season:

-- Roger "Rocky" McIntosh, LB

#### -- Anthony Montgomery, DT

If Montgomery impresses in training camp, he could secure a backup spot to expected starters Cornelius Griffin and Joe Salave'a. The Redskins selected Montgomery, out of Minnesota, in the fifth round of the NFL Draft.

Said Gibbs: "We feel like Anthony is someone who has real size at 6-5 and 311 pounds. We think he fits in and he plays very well with his hands. I have great respect for [defensive coordinator-defensive line coach] Greg Blache, and when he says [Montgomery] fits our scheme, we get excited about it."

Currently, sixth-year player Cedric Killings and third-year player Ryan Boschetti are listed as the backups at tackle.

Both have proven to be dependable when called upon, but they will need to earn a roster spot in training camp. Killings had 17 tackles last season, while Boschetti logged seven tackles.

Of course, defensive ends Phillip Daniels, Renaldo Wynn and Demetric Evans have the experience to shift inside to tackle if necessary. That should help ease some pressure on a young player like Montgomery in his rookie year.

-- Reed Doughty, S

#### -- Kedric Golston, DT

Like Montgomery, Golston has a chance to earn a backup role at defensive tackle this season. Some draft guides had Golston rated ahead of Montgomery, so those two rookies could find themselves competing against each other for a roster spot in training camp.

"[Golston] started 30 out of 44 games at the University of Georgia," Gibbs said. "He has a very good history of making plays and we felt like he would fit in very well with us at defensive tackle."

The Redskins selected the 6-4, 292-pounder in the sixth round of the draft.

-- Kili Lefotu, OL

#### -- Kevin Simon, LB

Simon would appear to face an uphill battle to earn a roster spot, but coaches like his potential as a backup middle linebacker. He could be a candidate for the practice squad, depending on how well he progresses this offseason.

The Redskins selected the 5-10, 235-pounder in the seventh round of the draft.

"He is very good in coverage and we think he is bright," Gibbs said. "He can and has made the calls inside. We were impressed with him when he came in for a visit before the draft. I think he has a chance to come in and compete and give us depth at middle linebacker."

Simon, who is regarded as a fiery, emotional player, will first need to excel on special teams to earn a roster spot.

At middle linebacker, the Redskins have Lemar Marshall coming off an impressive season in which he logged 132 tackles (103 solo), four interceptions, two sacks and two forced fumbles.

McCune and Khary Campbell will likely compete for backup jobs at middle linebacker. Both are versatile enough to play outside linebacker as well.
