The Redskins have signed practice squad cornerback John Eubanks to the roster, the team announced on Tuesday.
Eubanks takes the roster spot of Carlos Rogers, who was officially placed on injured reserve.
Eubanks has spent most of the past two years fine-tuning his skills on the team's practice squad.
Late last season, he was promoted to the Redskins' 53-man roster late in the 2006 season and saw action in the season finale against the New York Giants.
Eubanks originally joined the Redskins' roster in April 2006 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Southern Mississippi. He finished his college career with 10 interceptions.
He also can serve as a kickoff return specialist. At Southern Miss, he set a Conference USA record with a 26.4-yard kickoff return average.
Also on Tuesday, the Redskins signed second-year linebacker Tyson Smith to the practice squad to take Eubanks' spot.
Smith played in three games with the New York Giants in 2006, recording four tackles. The 6-2, 240-pounder played his college ball at Iowa State.
