Becoming the NFL’s first Black referee was never a goal for Grier, who, true to his humble nature, once said, “Somebody had to be first.” Grier did recognize, though, that being the first came with a certain power and influence, forces that could be used to help others and change the look of the sport.  

Numbers only tell part of the remarkable story of the last few months; there are the emotions this season delivered to awaken a fan base described by some as a “sleeping giant.”

Rapp became a standout in the Commanders Coach of the Week pool after leading the Pumas to an 11-2 season. And while the record and stats from his first year as a head coach are impressive, what’s more powerful is all that Rapp achieved and navigated this season that isn’t reflected in a box score.
