The 4th of July is near, which means fireworks, food and fun! While most of my teammates are using this holiday to take some much-deserved vacation time before the season kicks off, I'll be celebrating right here in our nation's capital! For those joining me, here are a few fun things to do to make the most out of Independence Day. Did I mention they are all free?

1. Watch a Parade: Line up along Constitution Avenue to see D.C.'s annual National Independence Day Parade. Washington, D.C.'s 4th of July Parade features marching bands, military and specialty units, floats, and VIP's. The parade is a crowd favorite so make sure to arrive early and grab a spot. Parade start time: 11:45 am – 2:00 pm
2. Catch a Ballgame: What's more American than a baseball game and a hot dog? The Washington Nationals play at Nationals Park at 11:05 a.m.
3. Check out the National Archives: Original copies of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights are all on display at the National Archives. The celebration includes patriotic music, a dramatic reading of the Declaration by re-enactors and descendants of the Signers, and exciting free family activities and entertainment for all ages. 
4. Walk through the Smithsonian National Museum of American History: Dig deep into our country's history and see the original flag that inspired our national anthem. Also check out "The First Ladies Collection" exhibit, my personal favorite and not only because of the name =)
5. Enjoy some music:A 4th of July tradition in the nation's capital includes a live concert by the National Symphony Orchestra performing patriotic music on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building. Emmy Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos will host the 38th annual A Capitol Fourth. Performers include: Lee Brice, Vanessa Williams, Carol King and my favorite Keala Settle from "The Greatest Showman".
6. Go out with a bang: Is it even 4th of July without seeing fireworks?! Watching the fireworks is one of the highlights of D.C.'s Independence Day celebrations, and there are plenty of great spots to view them from the National Mall, rooftops or by boat on the Potomac River. I like to head across the bridge to Arlington and see the full D.C. Skyline with fireworks. Get there early to grab a spot! Fireworks start around 9 p.m.
