The Redskins have tendered a qualifying offer to restricted free agent punter Derrick Frost, the team announced on Thursday.

The qualifying offer keeps Frost a restricted free agent. The Redskins would have the right to match any offer from another team.

Under the terms of the Redskins' qualifying offer, if another team signs Frost to an offer sheet, the Redskins would receive no draft pick compensation for him. Frost had entered the league as an undrafted rookie.

Frost is the only punter currently on the Redskins' roster. He can also serve on kickoffs if needed.

Frost finished the 2006 campaign ranked 21st in the NFL in punting average. He logged a 42.9-yard average on 81 punts, with 27 placed inside the 20-yard line.

Frost's best game was in the Week 15 game against the New Orleans Saints, a 16-10 win for the Redskins. In the Superdome, Frost had five punts for a 47.8-yard average, including a long of 54, and three kicks inside the Saints' 20.

It's expected that the Redskins will not make qualifying offers to offensive lineman Jim Molinaro and defensive tackle Ryan Boschetti.

In that case, Molinaro and Boschetti would become unrestricted free agents.
