Darrell Green is often given the prestigious title as "one of the fastest players in NFL history."
His legend began as a rookie in his first game in the burgundy and gold when he chased down the Cowboys' lightning fast Tony Dorsett to prevent a touchdown. It was that moment when people realized he was going to be a very special player.
Green became immensely popular among the Redskins faithful and remains at the top of the franchise's career interception list with 54 takeaways.
He also boasts the longest tenure with one team in all of pro sports and had the longest career in Redskins history. His other Redskins records include: most interceptions returned for a touchdown (6), most games started (258), most consecutive seasons (20), and longest fumble return for a touchdown (78 yards).
The 5-8, 170-pound speedster played in three Super Bowls for the Redskins, winning two (Super Bowls XXII and XXVI). In a 1987 divisional playoff game against the Chicago Bears, Green returned a punt 52 yards for the game winning touchdown while tearing a rib muscle with his maneuverability.
He was voted to seven Pro Bowls and is a member of the 1990s All-Decade team. He retired at the age of 42 after playing for six different head coaches in Washington.
In 2008, Green capped off his impressive career when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame alongside former teammate Art Monk.
