Chris Hanburger has always been a man of few words. So it should hardly be surprising that, while addressing Redskins fans in an on-field ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 6 at FedExField, he kept his comments brief.
Hanburger, taking part in the Redskins' Homecoming festivities during the Redskins-49ers game, was presented with his Hall of Fame ring in the ceremony.
"I think it's great," Hanburger said. "It's really nice, people from the Hall of Fame are here to present it, so it's a nice thing."
Hanburger last attended a Redskins game nine years ago as part of the franchise's 70th anniversary celebration. On Sunday, he joined more than 80 Redskins alumni for Homecoming, including fellow Hall of Famers Bobby Mitchell, Charley Taylor, Sonny Jurgensen, Sam Huff and others.
Each of the Redskins alumni walked out of the tunnel during pre-game introductions on Sunday.
Hanburger admittedly doesn't follow football anymore, but he said he was looking forward to Sunday's ceremony.
Hanburger addressed the Redskins faithful from the field.
"I'd like to thank all of you fans," Hanburger said. "There is no question in my mind, I've played 14 years with the Redskins, went to a lot of different stadiums, and you folks are the best fans in the National Football League."
Last August, Hanburger was inducted in Canton as part of the Class of 2011. He was presented with his gold Hall of Fame jacket and his bronze bust.
The Redskins drafted Hanburger in the 18th round of the 1965 NFL draft. He played linebacker for the Redskins from 1965-1978, and over his career was elected to nine Pro Bowls. He also was named to the first team all NFL four consecutive years from 1972-1976.
