Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he had signed with the Atlanta Falcons, calling it a "#DoneDeal."
Four years after being picked in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, Leonard Hankerson says he's moving on.
The unrestricted free agent wide receiver – who had been visiting with the Atlanta Falcons – tweeted Wednesday afternoon that his place on the Falcons' roster was a "#DoneDeal."
The Falcons are yet to formally announce the deal.
Hankerson was picked by the Redskins as the 79th-overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft after a prolific career at the University of Miami, where he finished fifth in school history in receptions (134) and receiving yards (2,160).
He would undergo an injury-plagued career with the Redskins, however. In his rookie season, he played in four games, starting two, before he was placed on season-ending IR with a hip injury.
The next season, he played in all 16 games with five starts, registering 38 catches for 543 yards and three touchdowns, but followed that up in 2013 with another season-ending injury – this time to his knee – on Nov. 21. He was off to a fast start that year, however, with 30 catches for 375 yards and three touchdowns.
Hankerson, who was recovering from knee surgery for most of the season, would only get onto the field for one game in 2014, and did not register any catches.
He finishes his time in Washington with 81 receptions for 1,081 yards and six touchdowns.
Hankerson is the second Redskins unrestricted free agent to reportedly sign with another team this week. On Tuesday, reports surfaced that running back Roy Helu Jr. had signed with the Oakland Raiders.
