Healthy Again, Ramsey Ready to Compete

Patrick Ramsey emerged from this weekend's mini-camp confident that his right foot was at full health. As expected, the third-year quarterback participated fully in passing drills, workouts and scrimmages.

It was something that he'd been looking forward to since last December when he had surgery to repair a bone bruise in the foot.

"I'm just pleased to be able to go out there, plant on my foot and not feel hurt, weak or hindered," Ramsey said. "I'm sure it could be even better, but right now it just feels great that it's not even a factor anymore."

Now Ramsey can focus on the looming training camp competition for the Redskins' starting quarterback job with Mark Brunell. It's much too soon for anyone to have emerged as a favorite, but it's safe to say the groundwork for the competition was established this weekend.

Ramsey said the team had a strong weekend of mini-camp practices. The hard work will continue for the next two weeks with more practices as part of league-sanctioned Organized Team Activities (OTAs).

"I think we had some good work in at mini-camp," Ramsey said. "We've spent a lot of time learning this offense and we have a good understanding of what to do. I don't think it'll be something where we're struggling to install [the offense], it'll be something where we're reviewing as we go over it."

He added: "We're just going to try to continue to progress over the next couple of weeks and get ready for training camp."

Said head coach Joe Gibbs: "Patrick did very well [on Sunday]. He's everything we thought he would be. He's real strong, real smart. He's made every meeting and every practice. He's back completely healthy. He had a good camp.

"We've thrown a lot at him, much more than what we would have during a regular season and regular preparation. He's kind of on overload right now, but he's handled it well."
