In his first career postseason game, wide receiver Dyami Brown made the most of his opportunity with a breakout performance that helped lead the Washington Commanders to a 23-20 Wild Card victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The fourth-year receiver was just getting started when he caught quarterback Jayden Daniels' pass for a touchdown in the back of the end zone. Brown's 10-yard reception capped a 17-play, 92-yard drive to put the Commanders on the board in the second quarter.
"I had an end route in the back of the end zone, and they basically left me wide open, so there ain't much to explain right there," Brown said with a laugh in his postgame press conference.
In the third quarter, Brown's presence caused havoc in the Tampa Bay secondary. Lined up on Daniels' right on a play-action concept, Brown ran through three defenders and stiff-armed outside linebacker Yaya Diaby before being taken down at the Bucs' 5-yard line. Brown's catch-and-run set up kicker Zane Gonzalez for a successful 22-yard field goal to put the Commanders ahead. Earlier in the drive, Brown laid a truck stick on Tampa Bay safety Mike Edwards before celebrating the big hit with a "too small" celebration.
With the score tied up at 20 and just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Daniels found Brown again for a big-time catch that put Gonzalez in position to boot the 37-yard, game-winning "Doink Heard 'Round the World."
"[Kicker Zane Gonzalez] made it -- so, congratulations to us," Brown said. "It's kind of tricky to see a little doink go in, but we'll take that one."
All in all, Brown recorded five receptions for a team-high 89 yards and one touchdown. His breakout performance helped Washington make history, ending a nearly 20-year playoff win drought.
"I'm just grateful -- even for that opportunity," Brown said regarding the meaning of winning a playoff game. "I know previous years weren't like that -- but just [having] the opportunity that I'm given, I'm grateful for it."

Fighting through injury and playing alongside Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin, Brown hasn't had a flashy season on paper. Brown didn't record a single stat despite being on the field for 56% of offensive snaps in the Commanders' Week 1 bout with the Buccaneers. Additionally, he had just 30 receptions for 308 yards and one touchdown in the regular season.
Brown credits the Commanders' newfound culture and locker room camaraderie for boosting his confidence and getting through some of the more challenging moments he's faced this season.
"The brotherhood that we set and the culture that we set here, we just want to go out there and be the best that we can be," Brown said. "And we believe in each other from the offense, defense, special teams. We all play a part in what we do, and I just appreciate the guys that are in the locker room."
Head Coach Dan Quinn has also noticed Brown's resilience, patience, and team-first mentality.
"Certainly proud of him because [he] got injured just a few weeks ago and worked hard to get back to make sure he was ready and able to deliver in that spot," Quinn said in his postgame press conference. "The one screen, I thought it was a great block by [Andrew] Wylie to get it, but it was nice to see Dyami [Brown] step into that space. There's a lot of guys that are ready to step into those moments. [For] some players, we were entering into their first playoff experience.
"There's a lot of extra energy, and we're supposed to use that energy for good in terms of the preparation of how we go. But I was certainly proud of him. I told him that in the locker room."
