With 1-3 inches of snow falling in the Washington, D.C., area on Thursday, the Redskins were forced to move practice to a fitness center in Northern Virginia.

It was the third time this season that inclement weather forced the team to move practice off-site.

Head coach Mike Shanahan said after practice that the Redskins' practice situation during inclement weather is not ideal – most other cold-weather NFL teams have an on-site practice facility or bubble – and that he has talked to owner Daniel M. Snyder about it.

"It's a priority, for sure," Shanahan said.

Last August, Snyder told Redskins.com that the team is looking at building an indoor practice facility on the grounds of Redskins Park "hopefully in the near future."

In the meantime, Shanahan and the Redskins are left to deal with the elements.

The team is preparing for this Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium.

On Wednesday, the Redskins practiced on the Astroturf field because the three grass fields were "frozen," according to Shanahan.

On Thursday, the snow started falling about two hours before practice.

Because it would have taken 90 minutes for buses to arrive, players carpooled over to the fitness center.

Shanahan said he was proud of how players adapted to change.

"This is what we have right now and we'll deal with it," Shanahan said. "I think our players did a fantastic job of doing what we need to do prepare for a game. They're not excuse-makers. We got everything done we needed to get done [in practice]. That's what you want for your football team to do."
