Wide receiver DeSean Jackson and saftey Duke Ihenacho left Sunday's season opener with the Dolphins with first-half injuries.
Before their seasons had barely begun, Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson and safety Duke Ihenacho were ruled out of Sunday's season opening 17-10 loss to the Dolphins for injuries sustained during the first half of play.
Jackson injured his left hamstring while Ihenacho suffered a fractured and dislocated left wrist. After the game, head coach Jay Gruden was unaware of the timetables for both of his starters' returns.
Jackson, who missed the entire preseason with a shoulder injury, tweaked his hamstring chasing down a deep pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins on the Redskins' second drive of the day. He was evaluated on the sideline before the team ruled him out.
Ihenacho hurt his wrist during a tackle near midfield near the start of the second quarter and was immediately taken into the locker room. Based on the diagnosis, his injury is more severe and could take longer for him to recover. Both will have MRIs soon.
Trenton Robinson came in to fill the void at strong safety, while Jeron Johnson and Kyshoen Jarrett were utilized only for special teams.
Missing Jackson's presence in the offense was noticeable and hampered some of the game plan for quarterback Kirk Cousins, who still managed to find targets despite his absence.
"When you don't have him it definitely is a piece that you miss," Cousins said. "But I was pleased with the way [wide receiver] Andre Roberts and [wide receiver] Ryan Grant stepped up and played really well in his absence."
More updates will be provided on the timetables for return as announced. Stay tuned to Redskins.com throughout the week.
