After leading his team to a 4-1 record in December and January -- throwing for 1,379 yards and 13 touchdowns -- Kirk Cousins has been named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month.
The awards keep piling up for Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins.
On Thursday, the league announed that the fourth-year Michigan State product was named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month for games played in December and January.
It's Cousins' first Player of the Month award of his career, and the first for a Redskins quarterback since Todd Collins won the award in December 2007.
Cousins led the Redskins to a 4-1 record in December and January, throwing for a combined 1,379 yards with 13 touchdowns, and adding two rushing touchdowns. He led the NFL with a 127.3 passer rating in those games and was the only quarterback in the NFL with a 100-plus passer rating in all five games.
In the process, Cousins and the Redskins surged to the NFC East title, clinching Week 16 with a 38-24 victory over the Eagles in Philadelphia. They play host to the Green Bay Packers Sunday at FedExField in a 2015 NFC Wild Card Round matchup.
Cousins is the 13th player in Redskins history to win a Player of the Month award, joining Dexter Manley (defense; 1986), Earnest Byner (offense; 1990), Wilber Marshall (defense; 1991), Gary Clark (offense; 1991), Marshall again (defense; 1992), Pat Eilers (special teams; 1993), Terry Allen (offense; 1996), Matt Turk (special teams; 1997), Marcus Washington (defense; 2005), Collins (offense; 2007), Clinton Portis (offense; 2008) and London Fletcher (defense; 2012).
