Brandon Banks is visiting Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., for further evaluation of his injured knee.
Banks, the Redskins' wide receiver and kick return specialist, has sat out practice the last two days due to knee soreness. He has been ruled out of this Friday's preseason game vs. Indianapolis.
Banks was a standout on special teams in the Redskins' 16-7 preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. He had a 16-yard punt return and a 58-yard kick return.
Banks has missed practice periodically since training camp began on July 29. He had returned to practice on Monday of this week but the knee swelled up afterwards.
Last year, Banks provided a spark for the Redskins' special teams. In 46 kick returns, Banks amassed 1,155 return yards for a 25.1-yard average and one touchdown. On punts, he had 38 returns for 431 yards, an 11.3-yard average.
In addition to Banks, running back Ryan Torain (hand), linebacker London Fletcher (hamstring/groin), safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (hamstring) and cornerback Josh Wilson (groin) are not expected to play in Friday's preseason game in Indianapolis.
Torain returned to the practice field on Wednesday. He needs to get back in football shape before he's ready to play in a preseason game, Mike Shanahan said.
"Hopefully, for the last preseason game, he should be ready to go," Shanahan said.
