Devin Thomas departed Arizona on Thursday night asking himself the same question as many rookies and roster longshots.
Did he do enough to earn a Redskins roster spot?
Thomas, the third-year wide receiver and former second-round draft pick, started the Redskins-Cardinals game at University of Phoenix Stadium and played all four quarters.
He finished with four catches for 34 yards, including one that converted a 3rd-and-3 in the first quarter.
He returned four kickoffs and posted a solid 27.5 return average, with a long of 34.
The only bad play involving Thomas came midway through the fourth quarter.
It appeared there was miscommunication between Thomas and quarterback John Beck. Thomas appeared to stop short on his route across the middle and Beck's throw sailed past him, into the arms of linebacker Monty Beisel for an interception.
In the days leading up to the Redskins' preseason finale, Thomas said he would do whatever it took to earn a roster spot.
Despite starting 10 games last season, Thomas was listed as a third-string wide receiver all preseason.
He had not played a single down on offense in the third preseason game against the New York Jets, leading to uncertainty about his future with the club.
"I'm just going to play my heart out and do what I have to do to stay on the team," he said before the Cardinals game. "I'm going to approach it like it's a regular season game and show coaches I'm ready to perform."
Thomas finished preseason with eight catches for 112 yards and one touchdown, a 44-yarder from Rex Grossman in the opener against the Buffalo Bills.
The question remains: did he do enough?
In the Redskins' preseason finale, Santana Moss, Joey Galloway and Anthony Armstrong were given the game off, indicating they were locks to make the roster.
Thomas was competing with veterans Roydell Williams and Bobby Wade and rookies Terrence Austin, Brandon Banks and Shay Hodge at wide receiver.
Against Arizona on Thursday night, Austin caught five passes for a team-high 94 yards and one touchdown, while Banks had five catches for 65 yards. Williams, Wade and Hodge did not catch a pass in the game.
