With Trent Williams suspended for the rest of the season, Sean Locklear has an opportunity to earn the starting spot at left tackle the final four games.

Locklear will compete in practice this week with undrafted rookie Willie Smith.

It appears Locklear would have the advantage based on his veteran experience.

Williams suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles and missed the next two games. Locklear stepped in to fill Williams' spot as the starter for those two games.

Locklear says he's ready to step in again should coaches name him the starter.

"That's part of the game," Locklear said. "That's why they signed me here to be a backup and to be able to play, and I've been playing a lot more than I expected."

While Locklear has only played in three games this year, he feels comfortable with the offense.

"Being here all year and going to camp, I know everything," Locklear said. "I sit and watch, I get to watch the guys every week so I know what's going on."

Locklear or Smith will have to face off against former Redskins defensive end Andre Carter.

Locklear has previously squared off against Carter when he was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

"He's a good player, he had four-and-a-half sacks in one game this year, so you have to prepare," Locklear said.

Locklear was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2004 draft. He played for the Seahawks from 2004-10, before signing a free agent contract with the Redskins last offseason.
