Redskins team President Bruce Allen said next year's game against the Bengals in London is a "fantastic opportunity" for the team and its fans.

If Bruce Allen has his way, then a large crowd at Wembley Stadium in London will be singing "Hail To The Redskins" less than a year from now.

The team announced on Wednesday that it will play the Cincinnati Bengals in London Oct. 30, 2016, as participants in the NFL's International Series.

Allen, the Redskins' team President, said the game in London is "a fantastic opportunity" for the organization and its fan base.

"It's an historic event for the Washington Redskins, and it's historic for the National Football League," Allen told Larry Michael, the Voice of the Redskins, on a Wednesday appearance on "Redskins Nation." "There's going to be a lot of burgundy and gold in that stadium."

The NFL has seen huge growth in its United Kingdom market since the inception of the International Series in 2007. According to the league, by the end of the 2016 season, either 23 or 24 teams, depending on how this year's results play out, will have played in London since 2007.

Allen said the Redskins will certainly use other teams' past experiences in London as a footprint for planning their own trip across the Atlantic Ocean next October.

"I'm glad that there have been nine games before us," he said. "It allows us to learn some of the good things and ways that we can improve on. But we're a big supporter of growing the NFL brand globally, and as one of the premier franchises in all of sports, it's great for us to go."

The game against the Bengals at Wembley Stadium will technically be considered a road game for the Redskins, meaning they will preserve their eight-game regular season home slate in 2016.

The Redskins could also make history next year in London. The league announced Wednesday that the St. Louis Rams will play a "home" game in London against the NFC East team that finishes in the same place in their respective divisions on Oct. 23, 2016.

If the Rams and Redskins finish in identical places in the NFC West and NFC East, respectively, the Redskins would become the first team in NFL history to play consecutive regular season games overseas.

"Hopefully they finish in first place," Allen said of the Rams.

Although the team will treat its trek to England like any other road trip, Allen said Redskins fans that travel to the game, as well as those abroad, can look forward to a good time in the days leading up to the game.

"Once we know if we have one game or two games there, we'll have different types of packages," Allen said of game ticket and travel opportunities. "We're going to do our traditional pep rallies, and it might be a weeklong celebration in England."

Then, once the game starts, the Redskins hope to introduce the British fans to one of their longest traditions.

"We're going to have a great showing in England," Allen said. "And we're going to get the fans singing 'Hail to the Redskins.'"
