While opponents often mistaken Matt Jones as just as big bruising running back, the rookie once again showed that he's got some speed on a 78-yard touchdown catch against the Saints.

It was a touchdown catch that was capped by a point to his daughter in the stands at FedExField. She was attending her first NFL game.

In the second quarter of the Washington Redskins' 47-14 victory over the New Orleans Saints, rookie running back Matt Jones showed he's a lot more than the prototypical bruiser, a label that was applied to him well before he was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Sure, Jones had runs up the heart of the Saints' defense that were complimented by power and strength.

But on this day, his highlight play came on a 78-yard touchdowns reception.

The play began at the Redskins' 22-yard line. After Kirk Cousins faked the handoff to Jones, the running back maneuvered to his right behind blocks being set up by Brandon Scherff and Josh LeRibeus.

With support ahead, Jones had to make two cuts and the rest was history.

"It was set-up perfect, man," Jones told Redskins.com after the game. "We caught them in a look we wanted to be in, got behind my guard and my center and they pulled out. I made two cuts to set-up some downfield blocks and it was off to the races then. I saw nobody was really chasing me, so I kind of cruised all the way to touchdown. So that was perfect, man. Perfect play call and everything."

Jones said he checked over his shoulder to ensure no one was within striking distance and found that he was well clear of the other 21 players on the field.

"I saw somebody like 15 yards away, so I was like OK," Jones said. "I looked to my left, nobody was there, so I mean I was like 'Woo-hoo.' I was ready to get to the end zone, though, because I was getting real tired."

There probably aren't too many players that stand at 6-foot-2 and weigh more than 230 pounds that have the speed Jones does.

He enjoys when people neglect to factor in speed with his game.

"Since middle school I've been big, but everybody kind of underestimated my speed," he said. "Ever since I showed people I could kind of run, they starting to buy in. I mean, people are going to do that all the time just because I'm a big running back and I turn on my little jets that I have. You know, some people open their eyes and say that he can run a little bit."

Jones' contributions also came in a run game that rebounded from a four-game stretch in which they failed to rush for more than 52 yards as a team.

Jones, Alfred Morris, Chris Thompson and Darrel Young combined for 31 carries for 225 yards against the Saints.

"We were struggling the last couple weeks," Jones said. "You know, we were getting two or three yards here and there, but this week it was like six or seven. We did a lot of execution. Our game plan was great to run the ball against these guys. We really didn't switch up anything to be honest. We just had to execute better. … We won that game because of up front the O-Line was on point today."
