Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey has been a Redskins fan since he was four years old. Watching Western movies with his dad, he'd root for the Indians over the Cowboys. The Redskins also had a star linebacker (Chris Hanburger) with nearly the same last name as his favorite food.

"When you're four years old, that's two for two," McConaughey said during "The Rich Eisen Show" on Friday.

That fandom never wavered. McConaughey was at the last game at RFK Stadium, the first game at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium and the first game at FedExField. In August, McConaughey attended the team's annual Welcome Home Luncheon and its preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens.

McConaughey has seen Redskins' football at its best, and he's excited about what's on the horizon under new head coach Ron Rivera.

"I like where we're heading," McConaughey said. "We've needed to make a change, and I think we're really now on our way."

McConaughey loves the hire of Rivera, the 30th head coach in franchise history. He loves the "coach-centered approach" Rivera and Redskins Owner Dan Snyder talked about at Rivera's introductory press conference. He loves the mindset of an organization hell-bent on creating a "sustainable winning culture."

McConaughey then mentioned how Washington used to be one of the "great dynasties" in the NFL. During the 1980s and early 1990s, Redskins were postseason regulars and perennial NFC East contenders. They appeared in four Super Bowls during that stretch and won three of them.

Admittedly, the rebuild will not happen immediately; but the pieces are in place.

"This is a chance for us to get back in that conversation," McConaughey said. "We are now saying, 'Hey, we're going to build a dynasty again'...and Hail Redskins."
