Still coming back from a groin injury, wide receiver Santana Moss is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.
Moss did not participate in practice on Friday, the third consecutive day that he has missed practice. The team will continue to monitor his status heading into Sunday.
"I can only give you the facts--he didn't practice [Friday]," head coach Joe Gibbs said. "It might be a situation where he warms up before the game, he might not."
If Moss can't play, then a host of wide receivers could see action opposite starter Antwaan Randle El.
James Thrash, Brandon Lloyd, Reche Caldwell and Keenan McCardell all could see action on Sunday. Caldwell and McCardell would be seeing their first game action as Redskins.
Asked whether he would activate four or five wide receivers on game day, Gibbs said: "I haven't made up my mind."
Moss told reporters after practice that he "feels great," but that he would leave it up to the coaching staff to decide whether he plays or not.
In the past, Redskins coaches have typically not activated players who have missed three days of practice.
If it were up to Moss, he would play.
"I don't like being out there on that sideline," he said. "The sideline isn't any good."
Meantime, Lloyd returned to practice on Friday after missing Thursday due to a shin injury.
-- SMOOT'S BACK
Fred Smoot will be needed against the top-ranked Lions passing offense on Sunday, and the seven-year cornerback plans on playing.
This time he means it.
Smoot has missed the Redskins' last two games due to a hamstring injury. Before each of those games, Smoot said he expected to play. He ended up being declared inactive both times.
Coming off a bye, Smoot has had four weeks to heal up his hamstring injury. He is listed as probable.
"I'm healthy," he said. "The bye week came at a perfect time. We have to have everyone for this one."
Smoot played in the NFC North the last two years with the Minnesota Vikings, so he has seen plenty of the Lions.
He said that Lions quarterback Jon Kitna appears to be in a rhythm with his receivers. Kitna has completed 98-of-138 passes, a 71 percent completion rate, for 1,227 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
"Point blank, Kitna's having an Arena Football League-type season right now," Smoot said.
Smoot said he welcomes the challenge of playing against a high-powered offense like the Lions.
"You can't make plays if nobody is throwing the ball," he said.
