Wide receiver Santana Moss has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance on Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys, the league announced on Wednesday.
Moss finished the game with five catches for 159 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdowns sparked the Redskins' thrilling, come-from-behind win at Texas Stadium.
Down 13-0 with 3:55 left in the game, quarterback Mark Brunell connected with Moss for a 39-yard score.
On the Redskins' next offensive series, Moss used his breakaway speed to create separation from Dallas's defender and caught a 70-yard touchdown pass.
"I was talking on the sidelines during the game with Clinton [Portis] about some things we could do [against Dallas], and before I even said anything to the coaches, they went and called it," Moss said after the game. "We practiced it in practice, and in game time, they dialed it up and we came through with it."
Moss said after the game that to throw off the defenders, he used a double move on his pass routes.
"I watched their secondary on film and they were aggressive at the safety position," Moss said. "So I thought if I could get behind them, those plays could work for us. The corners were going to play us with what they've seen from us. I figured if we run one of those plays that they've seen before, and just adjust it and take something off it, then I could get open. And that's what we did."
For the season, Moss has caught nine passes for 255 yards, a remarkable 28.3 yards per catch, to go along with the two touchdowns. His reception yardage total is tied for second-best in the NFL (behind Randy Moss) and tied for first with Terrell Owens in the NFC.
