Right tackle Jammal Brown returned to practice on Sunday after missing most of last week with hip soreness.
Brown took a series of reps in 11-on-11 work during practice.
"It felt good," Brown said after practice. "I felt like I had one of my better practices, too. It felt good moving around. There was some football soreness, but that's football."
Said head coach Mike Shanahan: "Jammal felt a lot better and he should be [full-go] on Monday. Hopefully he can make it through the practice and keep moving forward."
Brown had hip surgery last year and he was sidelined for the season as a member of the New Orleans Saints. He was traded to the Redskins on June 21 for a mid-round draft pick.
Brown said he had hoped to play in the Redskins' preseason opener last Friday vs. Buffalo, but coaches and team doctors wanted him to rest his hip a little longer.
He was replaced in the lineup by Stephon Heyer.
"I sat that one out, but I'm looking forward to the next one," Brown said, referring to the Aug. 21 preseason game vs. Baltimore at FedExField.
Brown has had limited reps with the first-team offensive line in training camp.
He is a two-time Pro Bowl left tackle, but he is expected to start at right tackle for the Redskins. (Rookie Trent Williams is slotted in at left tackle.)
Brown said he was impressed with the offensive line's performance against the Bills. The unit yielded just two sacks, both in the fourth quarter, and pounded out 140 rushing yards.
"We're working hard and we have a great offensive line coach in Coach Foerster," Brown said. "Coach Shanahan has this program going in the right way."
-- JOHNSON TO START vs. RAVENS
Larry Johnson is expected to draw the start in the Redskins' second preseason game this Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens.
Johnson did not play in last Friday night's preseason opener.
He will be making his Redskins debut and FedExField debut against the Ravens.
"He'll get a chance to showcase himself this week," Mike Shanahan said. "He has gotten a lot of reps, and what a guy doesn't want to do is play one series or two series and not showcase himself."
Willie Parker also did not play in the preseason opener. He could earn a start in a later preseason game.
In the Redskins' preseason opener, Shanahan opted to give Clinton Portis the first-team reps. He rushed for 22 yards on six carries.
Backups Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams took second- and third-team reps in the Bills game and were impressive.
Torain led the Redskins with 17 carries for 62 yards and also caught two passes for 22 yards. Williams had 11 carries for 51 yards and caught one pass for seven yards.
-- UPDATE ON WESTBROOK
The Redskins made a contract offer to free agent running back Brian Westbrook last June, but he has still not made a decision.
The St. Louis Rams are reported to be another suitor for his services.
Asked about Westbrook on Sunday, Mike Shanahan replied: "Yeah, I'm not sure what direction he's in, but we've been entertaining that option. I'm not sure what direction he's going in at this time."
Westbrook, Washington, D.C., native, was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason. A dynamic back, he played eight seasons alongside Donovan McNabb in Philadelphia, but he has been slowed by knee injuries and concussions in recent years.
