Cornelius Griffin was back on the practice fields on Friday, participating fully for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury in the Eagles game on Oct. 5.
Griffin is officially listed as probable for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.
"It looks like he's going to get the okay [to play], we just have to wait to see what his pain level is at after practice," Jim Zorn said.
Griffin has had a solid season for the Redskins, recording 14 tackles and a sack in five games.
He has been part of a rotation along the defensive line, with Lorenzo Alexander and Montgomery also seeing plenty of action.
"We haven't played Grif much in nickel situations," Greg Blache said. "We're trying to keep him rested because of the injuries he has had in the past. As we get further into the season, we'll get Grif more work in more kinds of situations and get him ready to make a big push for us in the second half of the season."
Kedric Golston has started every game this season next to Griffin.
Golston has 11 tackles and a sack, as well as four quarterback pressures.
"Kedric has had a good season," Blache said. "His numbers haven't been great, but I'm not worried about numbers. He has been a solid force for us. We'd like to see him grow and become more of a leader. But he has done a good job for us."
-- TAYLOR, SPRINGS PROBABLE
After sitting out the Eagles game, Jason Taylor and Shawn Springs are in line to return to action this Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.
They both have been slowed by calf injuries, but were full-go in Friday's practice. They are listed as probable.
Jim Zorn said he expected both Taylor and Springs to play against the Rams.
"I don't know if Jason is going to start, but he will be active," Zorn said. "He moved well in limited reps."
Springs, full-go for the second practice this week, was "moving around well," Zorn said.
Meantime, Marcus Washington also participated fully in Friday's practice, but he is listed as questionable for the Rams game.
Zorn said Washington would likely be a game time decision. If he can't play, then H.B. Blades would draw the start.
He has been slowed by a lingering hamstring injury that has cost him two games this season.
Also, Reed Doughty missed practice again on Friday to rest a back injury. He is expected to sit out the Rams game.
-- SACK SITUATION
Greg Blache said last week that "statistics are for losers." And he means what he says.
Asked about the Redskins' low sack total this season--the defense has just six sacks in five games--Blache replied that coverage has been a key in the early going.
"Our corners have covered extremely well," he said. "We have covered more than we have rushed. But we're not concerned with the numbers. We'd like to have more sacks, but you do what you have to do to win."
The return of Jason Taylor would certainly provide a boost for the pass rush.
Taylor could be limited in his game reps on Sunday as he comes back from a calf injury.
That means Demetric Evans could start for the third game in a row.
"Demetric has done a very good job filling in," Blache said. "I have been very pleased with his production."
-- HEYER UNCERTAIN
Stephon Heyer was limited in practice again on Friday, and it appears Jon Jansen could draw the start at right tackle for the third game in a row.
Heyer has been slowed by a shoulder injury.
He remains the "furthest away" among the Redskins' injured players, Jim Zorn said.
Officially, Heyer is listed as questionable for the Rams game.
