Jon Jansen began the 2008 season on the Redskins' sidelines, benched from his starting job at right tackle.

On Sunday in San Francisco, Jansen completed the season at the position he has manned for most of the last decade.

Jansen overcame a knee sprain to draw the start for the Redskins.

He was listed as questionable heading into the game, but was able to participate in practice last week.

Head coach Jim Zorn praised Jansen's "gutsy effort" in returning to practice and gearing up for the 49ers game.

Jansen, who turns 33 in January, missed the last two games due to the injury.

The Redskins' complete list of inactive players for the game was as follows: wide receiver Malcolm Kelly, offensive linemen Devin Clark, Will Montgomery and D'Anthony Batiste, defensive linemen Ryan Boschetti and Rob Jackson and linebacker Tyson Smith.

Jim Zorn remembers facing off against 49ers head coach and Hall of Famer Mike Singletary.

Video of Singletary's wide eyes at middle linebacker is still replayed on television, but Zorn recalls seeing it firsthand.

"I started a game with the Green Bay Packers in 1985, and I have him staring at me with these eyes that are sort of these big orbs through his face mask," Zorn said. "He was a tremendous football player. He had such a great intensity level.

"He played the game the way that most coaches would want it played."

Zorn said that Singletary's intensity has transferred to the coaching level.

He has established what most head coaches would like to establish: players holding themselves accountable for going out and executing the plan at hand with enthusiasm--even though they don't have anything to play for in the postseason," Zorn said. "[The 49ers are] playing very motivated."
