The status of cornerback Carlos Rogers remains uncertain heading into practice this week as he continues to rehab a biceps injury. Rogers did not play in Sunday's 35-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Regarding Rogers, head coach Joe Gibbs said on Monday: "Carlos will probably go right down to the final wire on [whether he'll play on Saturday against the Giants]. It's still pretty sore."
Safety Matt Bowen's status was also uncertain. Bowen has a knee injury that forced him to miss Sunday's game as well.
The news was better for linebacker LaVar Arrington, who has missed the last two games due to a thigh injury. Arrington worked out for trainers on Monday and showed improved range of motion, team officials said.
Arrington's status will likely be determined by how well his thigh holds up in practice this week.
Cornerbacks Shawn Springs and Walt Harris both came out of Sunday's game in good health after fighting through injuries to play in Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Springs has a groin injury and Harris has a calf injury.
If Rogers is unable to play, Springs and Harris would likely start at cornerback for the second straight week, with reserve Ade Jimoh serving as the nickel cornerback.
Running back Clinton Portis had a number of bumps and bruises coming out of Sunday's game, Gibbs said.
"The way he's playing right now, we need him," Gibbs said. "He's playing physical and tough. I'm hoping he's going to be okay by the weekend. We'll do what we did last week and go easier with him early. I think having a couple of days off hopefully will help and we'll get him back ready to go."
Wide receiver James Thrash, who has a hamstring injury, is expected to return to action this Saturday against the Giants, Gibbs added.
-- THOMAS REHAB
Right guard Randy Thomas underwent surgery on his fractured fibula on Monday evening. He will likely be out of action for 3-4 months, but should be ready for mini-camps in the spring.
At Redskins Park on Monday morning, Thomas walked on crutches and remained upbeat about the Redskins' three-game winning streak.
"The season is not over," Thomas said. "I still got to be supportive."
Thomas joked that the hardest part of surgery would be that he would not be able to eat for about 10 hours afterwards. Thomas, of course, is known for his eating prowess.
As of Monday evening, the Redskins had not yet placed Thomas on injured reserve. The team could work out some linemen to take Thomas's place on the 53-man roster.
