Running backs Clinton Portis and Ryan Torain were limited in Friday's practice and their status remains uncertain for Monday night's game vs. Philadelphia.
Portis remains sore as he recovers from a groin injury. He has missed the last four games.
"It's a little bit more difficult for Clinton because you've got to be really careful," Mike Shanahan said. "He wants to go but is still a little bit sore. I think the doctors will look at it and talk to him on Saturday to see how he's doing.
"We'll get a better feel for it after talking to the doctors exactly what direction we should go with him. He wants to go, I know that. We just have to make sure we're smart relative to his injury."
Shanahan seemed more optimistic about Torain, who has a hamstring injury.
"Ryan did a pretty good job [in practice]," Shanahan said. "There was no setback. He's day to day. He's pushing himself pretty hard and hopefully [on Saturday] he's feeling well."
If Portis and Torain are unable to play, then Keiland Williams would likely draw the starting assignment at running back.
The team may sign running back James Davis from the practice squad to add depth to the backfield.
"We'll have a certain part of the game plan that if he is activated and he is the guy, then he'll know and see if he feels comfortable with what we're doing," Shanahan said.
-- BANKS STILL A POSSIBILITY
Head coach Mike Shanahan still has not ruled out kick returner Brandon Banks from Monday night's game vs. Philadelphia.
Banks underwent surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his knee last week.
In Friday's practice, Banks caught a few kickoffs and punts. He did not run on the knee, however.
"We got a look at him," Shanahan said. "He caught the ball. He didn't overdo it. We'll get a chance to see if his knee swells up [by Saturday] and how he's doing. We'll do that for the next couple of days and probably won't make a decision until game time."
