Cornerback Shawn Springs returned to practice on Wednesday, but remains listed as questionable as he recovers from a groin injury.

Springs participated in individual drills during practice and told reporters afterward that he felt fine. As Springs progresses in practice during the course of the week, coaches will determine his availability for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans.

"I think it will be up to him and [secondary-cornerbacks coach] Jerry Gray," head coach Joe Gibbs said. "They will continue to work him and we'll see how he progresses. He has to practice and do more than just run and cut. We'll have to see how he comes along and certainly he'll be a big lift when he comes back."

Springs worked with athletic trainers during the early part of practice, then joined his teammates for individual work. He said he worked some in 7-on-7 coverage drills, but he sat out 11-on-11.

Springs has been careful not to re-aggravate the injury. He had initially returned to practice on Sept. 20 after recovering from abdominal surgery, but he tweaked a groin injury that has sidelined him for the last two weeks.

"I'm taking it day by day," Springs said after Wednesday's practice. "I'll just go out and see how I feel. Every day is different. Tomorrow it might be sore, so I'll just see what I can do tomorrow. For me to play, I have to feel like I haven't tweaked anything and nothing is hurting.

"Coach Gibbs has told me, 'If you feel good, then you can go. Maybe we can get you some snaps.'"

Punter Derrick Frost missed practice on Wednesday due to a family matter.

In last Sunday's game against the New York Giants, Frost sustained a calf injury. The injury is not considered serious and Frost is listed as probable on the team's injury report.

On Tuesday, the Redskins gave punter Sean Landeta, 44, a tryout at Redskins Park. Landeta is a 21-year NFL veteran who played with Philadelphia last year.

Joe Gibbs said the team was exploring options in case Frost's injury lingers.

"[Landeta] came out of the car, went out there and just started booming them," Gibbs said, smiling. "I asked him, 'How many years is it for you?' He said, 'I'm into my 22nd year, plus I've had two in the USFL. And I still think my best years are in front of me.'

"He's extremely confident. And he should be. He punted quite a bit last year."
