Linebacker Marcus Washington sat out practice on Wednesday due to swelling in his knee and he is listed him as questionable on the team's injury report.
Asked the severity of Washington's injury, head coach Joe Gibbs replied: "I don't know. He has quite a bit of swelling on his knee and [athletic trainers] want to make sure they get that off."
If Washington is unable to play this Sunday against the St. Louis Rams, defensive coaches would have several options in finding a replacement.
Veteran Jeff Posey is listed as Washington's backup at strong-side linebacker. However, the team could shift weak-side starter Warrick Holdman to strong-side and give rookie Rocky McIntosh extended playing time. McIntosh saw action at weak-side during last Sunday's 16-10 win over the New Orleans Saints.
Middle linebacker Lemar Marshall also missed practice on Wednesday due to a knee injury. He is listed as probable on the team's injury report.
Meantime, offensive lineman Jon Jansen continues to rest his calf injury that forced him to sit out last Sunday's game against the Saints. Jansen did not practice on Wednesday and he is listed as questionable on the injury report.
"Jon's still resting that," Gibbs said. "We're hoping that he'll be able to bounce back toward the end of the week."
If Jansen is unable to play, veteran lineman Todd Wade would draw his second consecutive start at right tackle.
Wade continues to draw praise from coaches for his performance in the Saints game. The seven-year NFL veteran made his Redskins debut.
"We were really pleased with the way he played," assistant head coach-offense Joe Bugel said. "He did a great job of preparing for the game once he found out he was the starter. He took it in his hands to show people the kind of football player he is."
Casey Rabach is listed as probable as he continues to play through a broken left hand. He did not re-aggravate the injury during the Saints game.
Wide receiver James Thrash missed Wednesday's practice due to a family matter, Gibbs said.

The Redskins have signed offensive lineman Sam Wilder to the practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. Wilder fills the spot left vacant by offensive lineman Nick Steitz, who was signed to San Francisco's active roster.
Wilder, 6-5 and 297 pounds, was on the Carolina Panthers practice squad earlier this season.
Originally signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2005, Wilder was traded to Tampa Bay for an undisclosed draft choice in August that same year.
The Buccaneers waived him prior to the start of the regular season and he signed with San Francisco's practice squad for the remainder of the year.
In college, Wilder was a three-year starter at Colorado and played on both sides of the ball, switching to offensive tackle two weeks before the season opener in 2003. He finished his career with 36 consecutive starts for the Buffalo and earned All-Big 12 honors his senior year.
