With training camp set to start on Friday, the Redskins have added a veteran wide receiver to the mix in Corey Bradford. To make room for Bradford, the team released wide receiver Danny Melendez.

Bradford, listed at 6-1 and 205 pounds, was at Redskins Park on Thursday. He worked out for team officials and underwent a physical prior to signing his contract.

He is expected to be on the field for the first training camp practice on Friday.

Bradford is a nine-year NFL veteran who played for the Detroit Lions last year, catching 14 passes for 164 yards in nine games.

For his career, Bradford has caught 215 passes for 3,346 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Bradford began his career with the Green Bay Packers in 1998. He played in 40 games, with 10 starts for the Packers.

He signed with the Houston Texans in 2002 and turned in his best NFL season that year, hauling in 45 catches for 697 yards and six touchdowns.

Bradford played four seasons in Houston, starting 38-of-63 games, before signing with the Lions last year.

Bradford played collegiately at Jackson State after transferring from Hinds (Miss.) Community College where he had a track scholarship from 1994-95. As a senior at Jackson State, he started 11 games, catching 48 passes for 937 yards and nine touchdowns.

With the Redskins, Bradford could challenge for playing time as a third or fourth wide receiver.

Santana Moss is slated to be a starter, with Antwaan Randle El and Brandon Lloyd expected to serve as No. 2 and slot receivers. James Thrash, Jason McAddley and Mike Espy are also in the mix for playing time.
