Clinton Portis has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday.

Portis registered a season-high in carries with 29 and rushing yards with 145, and added a touchdown in the Redskins' 23-17 victory at Lincoln Financial Field. He also had two catches for 13 yards.

Portis's 158 yards from scrimmage was a league-high for the week.

"Clinton has been working and running very hard the entire season," head coach Jim Zorn said. "We are excited that our running backs, offensive line and our entire team received the recognition for this accomplishment. Clinton had a top-notch performance and we are pleased that the NFL recognized him."

Portis rushed for 88 yards on 12 carries, a 7.3 yards-per-carry average, in the third quarter against the Eagles. He posted runs of 21 and 27 yards.

In the fourth quarter, Portis had a 4-yard touchdown run to give the Redskins a commanding 23-14 lead.

The Eagles had entered the contest with the NFL's top run defense, allowing just 53.8 yards per game. Led by Portis, the Redskins compiled a season-high 203 rushing yards on 44 carries.

Portis sealed the victory when he converted a 4th-and-1 attempt with a powerful 3-yard run late in the game.

This is Portis's third time winning a conference Offensive Player of the Week award.

He was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week following Week 16 last year when he rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 48 yards against the Minnesota Vikings.

In 2003, with the Denver Broncos, Portis was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after he rushed for 218 yards and five touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 7.

This is the second weekly award the Redskins have won this year. Rookie safety Chris Horton was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week following the Redskins' win over New Orleans in Week 2.
