Redskins safety and Virginia Tech alum Pierson Prioleau was shocked and saddened when he heard of Monday's tragedy at his alma mater.
He said that the incident, in which 32 students and professors were shot and killed by a gunman, will "stick with the Virginia Tech family and the nation for a long time."
"If you're a part of Virginia Tech at any time, you're a part of it forever," Prioleau said. "It's a place known for getting a good education and good times. This is a horrifying incident. My heart goes out to all of the victims' families and friends, and to everybody affiliated with Virginia Tech."
From Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder, on behalf of the Washington Redskins organization: "Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by the terrible tragedy at Virginia Tech. All of us have many ties to the school, which makes our sorrow much more personal."
Prioleau, a native of Alvin, S.C., attended Virginia Tech from 1996-99 and majored in interdisciplinary studies. He started every game as a senior and was named first-team All-Big East and third-team All-America by The Sporting News.
Virginia Tech is located in Blacksburg, Va., about a four-hour drive from Washington, D.C. In September 2004, Virginia Tech played USC in the BCA Football Classic at FedExField.
