Rabach Hopes to Play Through Knee Injury

Still recovering from a knee ligament injury, center Casey Rabach believes he can play in this Sunday's game vs. Minnesota.

Rabach participated in practice on Wednesday, the first of the week in preparation for the Vikings. Given the number of injured Redskins, it was more of a walk-through session, though.

Said Rabach: "As far as my mind, I'm ready to play. I think Coach [Mike Shanahan] has a different timetable and you have to ask him about that, but I definitely want to play this Sunday."

What does Shanahan say?

"I think we'll get a better indication [of Rabach's status] later this week when we have a full-speed practice and we can get a better feel for where he's at," he said.

Rabach suffered a tear in his knee's meniscus in the first half of last Sunday's 19-16 win over the Tennessee Titans. He was not able to return to the game.

On Wednesday morning, Rabach had his knee tightly wrapped.

He said that the pain in the knee felt "tolerable." His concern is with the instability of the knee, but his rehab program includes strengthening it so that it can withstand pressure.

If Rabach is unable to play, then the Redskins could start either Will Montgomery or Kory Lichtensteiger at the position.

It was Montgomery who replaced Rabach at center in the Titans game.

Rabach said he was proud of how his offensive line-mates responded to the rash of injuries they suffered in the Titans game.

In addition to Rabach, guard Derrick Dockery suffered a knee injury and guard Artis Hicks was sidelined with a thigh injury.

Offensive tackle Stephon Heyer had to switch to guard, a position he had not played before.

"I think they did a great job," Rabach said. "Stephon went into baller mode and played some great football. Obviously everything wasn't perfect or pretty, but they got the job done."
