Redskin Sign Oshinowo, Release Fitch

The Washington Redskins announced July 29 that they have signed defensive tackle Babatunde Oshinowo (Baba-tune-day Osh-in-o-wo) and waived defensive tackle Zarnell Fitch. Oshinowo will wear jersey No. 75R.

The 6-foot-1, 325-pound Oshinowo spent the final three games of 2007 on the Chicago Bears' active roster, playing in a reserve role in one contest against Green Bay on December 23. He did not play in one game and was inactive in the other.

Prior to being signed to the 53-man roster, Oshinowo spent the previous 12 weeks with the Bears' practice squad.

Oshinowo originally was drafted by the Cleveland Brown in the sixth round (181st overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft.

He was on the Browns' 53-man roster for three games throughout the season and made his NFL debut in the finale against Houston (12/31), where he totaled two tackles. He did not play in one contest and was inactive for another. Oshinowo spent the other 14 weeks on Cleveland's practice squad.

A four-year letterman and three-time Academic All-Pac-10 selection at Stanford (2002-05), Oshinowo played in 44 games with 34 consecutive starts. He compiled 145 career tackles, 15 sacks, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles for the Cardinal.

He was born on January 14, 1983 in Naperville, Ill., where he attended Neuqua Valley High School.

Fitch originally signed with the Redskins on July 26.
