• The Washington Redskins scored 20 unanswered points in the second half but ultimately fell short in their comeback bid, dropping their season debut to the Philadelphia Eagles, 33-27, in front of 82,743 people at FedExField on Monday.
• The Redskins pushed their NFL-best home sellout streak to 378 games, including both regular season and postseason games.
• The game snapped the Redskins' seven-game regular season winning streak, the team's longest since 1991.
• The Redskins are now 81-71-5 against the Eagles all-time, including postseason games. The Redskins' 81 wins against the Eagles remain the Redskins' most against any opponent.

The Redskins opened the season on Monday Night Football for the first time since 2006. It was the 10th time in team history that the Redskins have opened the season on Monday Night Football since the program's inception in 1970. * The Redskins made their season debut in prime time for the second time in the Shanahan era, including a 13-7 home win against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football in Week 1 of the 2010 season. * The Redskins opened the season against a divisional opponent for the fifth time since NFL realignment in 2002. * Head Coach Mike Shanahan is now 15-5 in season openers, including 3-1 in Week 1 with the Redskins. Shanahan's 15 wins in Week 1 remain the most among active coaches.

Offense Notes:

• Quarterback Robert Griffin III completed 30-of-49 passes for 329 yards with two passing touchdowns, two interceptions and a quarterback rating of 77.7.
• Griffin III set career highs in completions (30), pass attempts (49) and passing yards (329).
• Griffin III became the second Redskins quarterback since the 1970 merger to throw for 300 yards in consecutive season openers (Joe Theismann, 1982-83). Griffin III threw for 320 yards in the team's season-opening win at New Orleans last season.

Griffin IIIthrew his first touchdown pass of the season and 21st of his career in the fourth quarter, capping a four-play, 29-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass toLeonard Hankerson. * The touchdown reception was the fourth ofHankerson'scareer. * **Hankersonwould add another touchdown, his second of the game and fifth of his career, with 1:14 remaining in the game. * The multi-touchdown game was the second ofHankerson'scareer. Hankerson caught two touchdown passes from Kirk Cousins at Cleveland on Dec. 16, 2012. * Running backAlfred Morrisscored his first rushing touchdown of the season in the third quarter, capping an eight-play, 66-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run. * The rushing touchdown was the 14th ofMorris'career.

Morrishas scored at least one rushing touchdown in each of his last five regular season games dating back to last season, the longest streak of his career. It is the longest such streak by a Redskin since Stephen Davis scored at least one rushing touchdown in six straight games from Weeks 5-10 during the 2000 season. (Clinton Portis scored at least one rushing touchdown in five consecutive games in which he appeared across the 2005-06 seasons but missed a game during that stretch.) * Tight endJordan Reed, the Redskins' third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, made his NFL debut. He made his first career reception in the third quarter, gaining 11 yards on a pass from Robert Griffin III. * RookieChris Thompson** saw his first career NFL action, returning three kickoffs for 56 yards (18.7 avg.) and one punt for five yards. * Washington had 19 passing first downs, the team's most since posting 23 passing first downs at Tennessee on Nov. 21, 2010.

Defense Notes:

• Linebacker London Fletcher earned his 200th consecutive regular season start, becoming only the second linebacker in NFL history to accomplish the feat (Derrick Brooks – 208).
• The game was the 241st consecutive regular season game played by Fletcher, who is the league's active Iron Man. Fletcher is two games shy of tying Bill Romanowski for the most consecutive games played by a defensive player since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger (243).
• Cornerback David Amerson, the team's first selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, started at cornerback, becoming the first Redskins rookie to start at cornerback in Week 1 since Fred Smoot did so exactly 12 years ago on Sept. 9, 2001 at San Diego.

Cornerback DeAngelo Hall returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown on the game's first possession. The fumble return touchdown was the fourth of Hall's career and his first since Sept. 12, 2010, when he returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown vs. Dallas. * Hall's four fumble recovery touchdowns are the most among active NFL players. He is now tied with four players for the third-most career fumble return touchdowns in NFL history. * The Redskins defense has now scored a defensive touchdown in each of Shanahan's four home openers as head coach of the Redskins. The touchdowns have been scored by Hall (2010 fumble return vs. Dallas, 2013 fumble return vs. Philadelphia), linebacker Ryan Kerrigan (2011 interception return vs. New York Giants) and linebacker Rob Jackson (2012 vs. Cincinnati). * Hall's fumble return for touchdown marked the first time since 1974 that the team's first points of the season have been scored by the defense. That season, defensive back Mike Bass intercepted Giants quarterback Norm Snead and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown for the team's first points of the season on Sept. 15, 1974. * Hall's fumble return for touchdown marked the first time since 1973 that the team's first points of the season were scored via fumble return. That season, defensive end Verlon Biggs scored on a two-yard fumble return for the first points of the Redskins' season debut vs. San Diego on Sept. 16, 1973. * Linebacker Perry Riley, Jr. registered his first sack of the season in the first quarter, dropping Eagles quarterback Michael Vick for a six-yard loss. Riley had a career-high 3.5 sacks last season. * In the fourth quarter, Riley, Jr. recorded his fourth career fumble recovery. * The fumble was forced by cornerback Josh Wilson, the eighth forced fumble of his career and his fifth since joining the Redskins prior to the 2011 season. * Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan recorded his first sack of the season in the second quarter, dropping Vick for the 17th sack of Kerrigan's career.
