The Washington Redskins hosted the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 action at FedExField, falling to their division rivals by a final of 27-23 in a tight battle.

Fourth Quarter: Redskins 23, Cowboys 27

Coming out of the third quarter, the Cowboys had the ball to start but little success. Trent Murphy contiuned a solid afternoon with another sack on the first play of the quarter before Su'a Cravens recorded a tackle for loss. Dallas would complete a third down pass to Cole Beasley, but it was short of a chain mover.

On the Redskins' first offensive play of the quarter, Kirk Cousins would complete a 57-yard pass to Josh Doctson with the Dallas defense overcommitted on DeSean Jackson. It was Doctson's second career reception and put Washington well into the opponent's turf. Two plays later, Cousins would find Jordan Reed,but the drive would stall on a Cousins interception in the end zone.

Comin back onto the field, Cravens recorded his second tackle for loss of the quarter on first down, swiping Ezekiel Elliot's feet from under him for a four-yard loss. Dallas, however, would recover from the bad play to drive down the field and score behind an Alfred Morris four-yard touchdown run, the first of his Cowboys career and first against the Redskins.

With a little less than five minutes left in the game, the Redskins went to work down by four, needing a touchdown to win, but Washington would be unable to get the score, failing to move the chains in four plays.

Dallas would give the ball to Morris on first and second downs before Dak Prescott slide for a two-yard loss, a sack credited to David Bruton Jr.

Washington's final drive of the game would dtart from their own 10-yard line with 90 seconds left. Cousins would begin the drive by completing an eight-yard pass to Reed before later completing a pass to Chris Thompson for a 38-yard gain.

It would be the longest gain of the drive before Washington's last second attempt for a touchdown was forced out by the Cowboys.

Third Quarter: Redskins 23, Cowboys 20

The Redskins wasted little time taking a lead over the Cowboys, as Kirk Cousins drove the offense 75 yards in eight plays plays to take a 17-13 lead early in the third quarter. Highlighted by a 32-yard reception by Vernon Davis before Cousins found Jamison Crowder for an 11-yard touchdown. It was Cousins' first touchdown pass of the season.

Dallas would respond, though. Incorporating quite a bit of Ezekiel Elliot -- who had four carries for 39 yards -- Dallas drove down the field and took the lead back with a Dak Prescott touchdown run, giving Dallas a 20-17 lead with 5:41 left in the quarter.

The Cowboys would attempt to pull a fast one on the Redskins after the score, as they attempted an onsides kick. However, the ball did not go 10 yards out before being flagged for illegal touching. Washington would start their next drive on the Dallas 38-yard line and ultimatley tie the game at 20.

Aided by two first downs on the drive, the offense would get down to the 12-yard line before stalling out. Dustin Hopkins, however, would convert on a 27-yard field goal attempt to knot the affair up.

On the next drive, linebacker Will Compton went down on the turf before walking off on his own power with cramps. He is expected to return. That was the first play of the drive. On the very next play, Norman forced his first fumble as a member of the Redskins before Dashaun Phillips recovered the ball.

Cousins would find Niles Paul (his first regular season reception since an ankle fracture suffered last August) for a 16-yard gain. Coupled with a roughing the passer call, the Redskins moved up to the Dallas nine-yard line.

After Jones carried the ball on first down, Dallas was called for encroachment to move the ball to the five-yard line.

While the Redskins wouldn't be able to score a touchdown, Hopkins' field goal conversion put the Redskins up 23-20 at the end of the third quarter.

Second Quarter: Redskins 10, Cowboys 13

Continuing their drive from the Cowboys' 37-yard line to begin the second quarter, the Redskins utilized Matt Jones on the first two drives out of the break, as the running back gained seven rush yards before catching a four-yard pass.

DeSean Jackson would get the Redskins another first down with a 12-yard completion before Matt Jones split the Dallas defense – coupled with a diving effort – to score a 14-yard touchdown.

Dustin Hopkins would convert the extra point to make it a 10-7 game. The drive's length was 75 yards on just eight plays and lasted three minutes and 31 seconds. The Redskins defense held up well on the following drive, as Dallas was forced into a 3rd-and-20 situation following a holding call to stop their drive after just four plays.

After a 21-yard punt return by Jamison Crowder -- the longest of his career to date -- Cousins and Co. started the following drive from their own 25-yard line. The drive would last just three plays, though, as Cousins took his first sack of the season on second down before just overthrowing DeSean Jackson on a deep ball attempt.

Dallas would take advantage of the Redskins' inability to score, marching down the field to their third second field goal conversion of the game. Dallas tried to get deep into Redskins territory on a 3rd-and-5 throw with 4:43 left in the half, but DeAngelo Hall did a great job of getting in front of the pass and deflecting it.

After Cousins' 10-yard keeper got the Redskins a first down on their first play of the drive, before two perfectly thrown balls to Jordan Reed got the ball moving into opposing territory. Driving down to the Dallas 18-yard line, kicker Dustin Hopkins converted on his first field goal attempt of the game to cut the Redskins' deficit to three at halftime.

First Quarter: Redskins 0, Cowboys 10

The Redskins began their first of two games against the Cowboys on the defensive side of the ball, as Dallas returned the opening kickoff to their own 20-yard line.

While the Cowboys were able to complete their first pass of the game – an 11-yard gain – nose tackle Kedric Golston went down gripping his leg before walking off with trainers.

After Ezekiel Elliot got his first carry of the game, Josh Norman immediately made an impact on the game, deflecting a pass intended for Dez Bryant.

The Cowboys, though, would be able to get into Washington territory less than two minutes into the opening drive. After a Bryant reception to get Dallas to the Washington 49-yard line, he would convert his second third down reception of the game to move the chains.

But on 1st-and-10 from the 31-yard line, Ryan Kerrigan would register his first sack of the season as the linebacker came up to take down rookie quarterback Dak Prescott.

Dallas would get eventually get down to the Washington five-yard line before the defense was stout, holding three pass attempts to just one yard.

Dan Bailey would convert on his first field goal of the game to give the Cowboys the 3-0 advantage.

The Redskins' first drive of the game started from their own 25-yard line as Chris Thompson returned the ensuing kickoff 28 yards. After a six-yard carry by Matt Jones to start the game, DeSean Jackson quickly got Washington into opposing territory with a 28-yard reception. The Redskins were unable to capitalize on the explosive, play, though, as Tress Way would punt the ball just three plays later.

On their ensuing drive, the Cowboys would find the end zone, fueled by a key 4th-and-1 conversion by Dallas that got them down to a down and distance situation. Elliot punched it in for a one-yard score after Bashaud Breeland was called for pass interference.

Trying to get something going before the end of the quarter, Cousins' first pass after the Cowboys' touchdown went for 25 yards to Jordan Reed to get Washington to the 50-yard line. Cousins would complete two more passes -- to Vernon Davis and Jamison Crowder -- before the end of the quarter.
